Honoring excellence in safety across Virginia’s logging and timber industry
The Virginia Loggers Association (VLA), in partnership with Setliff Law, is proud to introduce the VLA Safety Leadership Award — a new annual recognition program celebrating individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to safety in the logging and timber industry. This award reflects the belief that safety isn’t just a policy—it’s a culture built by people who lead by example.
Who Can Be Nominated
Member companies may nominate any current full-time employee who has made a significant contribution to safety within their operation. Eligible roles include equipment operators, logging truck drivers, foremen, crew leaders, mechanics, safety coordinators, office personnel, and other team members who positively influence safety performance.
Nomination Criteria
Nominations should highlight how the nominee promotes or advances safety, such as by:
1. Preventing incidents through quick action or risk awareness
2. Developing or improving safety processes
3. Encouraging safe work habits and mentoring others
4. Leading safety meetings or training efforts
5. Demonstrating extraordinary safety performance in the field
How to Nominate
Submit a written nomination including:
1. Nominee’s name, role, and employer
2. Description of safety contribution
3. Relevant examples or supporting information

Award Recognition
The winner will receive:
1. Custom engraved award plaque
2. $1,500 cash prize (sponsored by Setliff Law)
3. Recognition in the VLA newsletter and website
4. Featured story in partnership with Setliff Law
5. Complimentary two-night hotel stay at the VLA Annual Meeting
6. Award presentation at the VLA Annual Banquet

A three-member panel will select the award recipient:
